For the first time in 10 years, The Postal Service is touring! After playing 2 nights at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, they made a stop in Philly at the Mann Center on Monday, 6/17 (Ra Ra Riot was the opener). Consisting primarily of Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie) and Jimmy Tamborello (of Dntel), the touring version of The Postal Service also includes the swoon-inducing duo of Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley) and Laura Burhenn (of The Mynabirds). Together, they are a veritable indie supergroup of proportions that cannot be justly expressed by words alone. If that sounds like exaggeration to you, leave this blog right now and never come back.
The Postal Service played through the entirety of 2003’s Give Up (their sole LP release) in addition to previously “unreleased” material and a few covers (including Beat Happening’s “Our Secret”). For their encore, they brought back “(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan” (their original Dntel collaboration) then finished the night with a rousing rendition of “Brand New Colony” (full setlist here).
The Postal Service will be touring through the beginning of August, then will cap off their tour with a performance at Lollapalooza. See all of their upcoming tour dates here. Below is their brand new music video for “A Tattered Line of String” from their 10th Anniversary Deluxe Re-Issue of Give Up. You can listen to the 10th Anniversary Re-Issue of Give Up in its entirety on Spotify.
